Tianan Transformers Exported to Rwanda: 4 Units of 110kV Power Transformers Passed EDCL/EUCL Factory Acceptance Test to Support Kigali Power Grid Upgrade

In April 2026, four units of 110/15kV power Transformers exported to Rwanda by Tianan Electric successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). The acceptance was jointly conducted by Rwanda’s Energy Development Corporation Limited (EDCL) and Energy Utility Corporation Limited (EUCL), lasting 20 days. The delivered transformers include two units of 20MVA and two units of 30MVA, which will be deployed in Gikondo, the core urban area of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, to provide stable and reliable Transmission And Distribution support for the local power hub.

Strict Power Supply Requirements in Core Areas, Meticulous Acceptance Standards

As the core urban area of Kigali, Gikondo is a key hub of Rwanda’s national power network. The region features highly concentrated power load, imposing extremely stringent requirements on power supply continuity and equipment stability. Given the long-distance sea and land transportation to the site and limited local maintenance conditions, the owner EDCL/EUCL set high standards for the quality control and process management of the 110kV power transformers.

During project implementation, Tianan Electric prioritized potential risk identification at the factory stage, ensuring the equipment could be directly installed and put into operation upon arrival in Rwanda, minimizing on-site commissioning risks.

Pre-Project Inspection Lays a Solid Foundation, Customers Participate Deeply in Control

Prior to the official launch of FAT, a four-member delegation from EDCL and EUCL visited the stacked core workshop, winding workshop, oil tank welding workshop, general assembly workshop and test laboratory. The delegation focused on verifying:

• Material quality and procurement traceability records of raw materials such as silicon steel sheets and electromagnetic wires
• Process implementation of key procedures including winding, assembly and drying
• Process control documents and inspection records under the ISO quality management system

The customer representatives recognized Tianan Electric’s production capacity, technical strength and quality system, establishing an efficient communication foundation for the subsequent 20 days of intensive acceptance.

20 Days of Rigorous Testing, Completion of Routine and Special Tests

In addition to all routine factory tests, the FAT added a number of special type tests in response to the high-standard requirements of the Rwanda project, as detailed below:

All test data were witnessed and confirmed item by item by the Rwanda customer representatives on site. The Tianan test team cooperated closely with the customer to ensure rigorous data and traceable processes in every link.

Rapid Response to Rectification, Efficient Closure Wins Recognition

During the acceptance, the customer representatives put forward several detailed rectification opinions based on on-site observations. The Tianan Transformer team responded promptly, formulated rectification plans item by item and completed high-quality closure within the agreed time, and submitted a complete accessory data package to the customer.

The representatives of EDCL and EUCL affirmed Tianan’s cooperative attitude, execution efficiency and rectification quality, stating that it reflected the professionalism of Chinese power equipment manufacturers.

Successful Conclusion of Acceptance, Deepening Win-Win International Cooperation

After 20 days of item-by-item testing and confirmation, all test results of the four main transformers met the technical specifications and IEC international standards, marking the successful completion of FAT.

The successful delivery of this project is of multi-faceted significance:

• Market: Further consolidated Tianan Electric’s delivery capacity and quality reputation in the African power equipment export market.
• Technical: Verified Tianan’s technical strength in temperature-rise control, insulation strength and low-noise design of 110kV-class power transformers.
• Cooperation: Deepened the strategic cooperative relationship with Rwanda’s national power companies EDCL/EUCL, laying a foundation for subsequent power infrastructure projects in East Africa.

Social: Provided solid support for the stable upgrading of power infrastructure in the core area of Rwanda’s capital, boosting local economic and social development.
